During stormy weather and high tides, the red dirt of the land along the coast of Western Australia often runs into the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, creating a phenomena which is locally known as the "ocean runs red". This creates amazing aerial images of the two vivid colours clashing, merging and swirling together, forming an incredible abstract landscape as they do so. The last time the artist saw this was on the 19th of October, inspiring her colour palette and this painting. The artist added texture to the canvas as well as sand to add depth and unusual surface patterning, which enhances the idea of water rushing over gritty dirt. The sides have been painted black, throwing all attention to the painting. Copper pigment has been used liberally to mimic the minerals of the Australian soil that creates the deep, red earth. This glistens in sunlight, enhancing the idea of the sun bouncing off water. Keywords:
