    Joi Murugavell
When I make art, I get to know myself better, nothing else does that (at the moment). As long as that keeps happening I feel like I'm making progress. When I show my work, it's a whole different thing. It’s not about my needs anymore but about what some people see or learn about themselves.

Art is a little bit like heavy underpants, you're constantly aware it's next to your most intimate thoughts.
    • Artist Statement
      • Joi Murugavell's struggle with "the trials and tribulations" of human communication is reflected throughout her work. “Oodlies” are the characters that appear in her paintings and stand for the odd lies we sometimes tell ourselves and others. When asked what influences her art she replied “Mostly conversations I have online and in parks, while walking my dog, which can be polite, tricky, open, beautiful, dead boring, insightful or completely fake. I consciously try to make sense of it all”.
