    Western Australia

    Mark Boyle
My name is Mark Boyle and I live in Perth, Western Australia.

Photography has been the one constant throughout my life since my early teens.

I studied at Photography Studies College, Melbourne from 1983 to 1986 and graduated with a diploma in fine art photography.

I worked as a commercial photographer in the 1990’s but left the industry in 1997 to study interactive multimedia technology.

However, since then I have concentrated on my own photography when possible, focusing mainly on landscape and travel.

      • Photography has been one of the main constants throughout my life and landscape photography has been the main creative driving force. It has always been a perfect synthesis between my love of photography and my love of the Australian landscape; in particular, the rugged northern regions of Western Australia.

In my late teens and early twenties I worked extensively throughout the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne and Murchison regions of Western Australia as a field assistant for mineral exploration companies. This made it possible for me to see and experience many amazing places that I would not normally have had the opportunity to visit.

Throughout my adult life I have made many solo journeys into these regions to explore and photograph their unique and amazing beauty.

Then quite recently, when I first had the opportunity to try aerial photography for myself, it was like being struck by lightning (figuratively speaking of course). I immediately knew this was the style of photography I was meant to do. It suited my aesthetic approach perfectly with the use of colour, pattern, shape, texture and light to create images of great depth and ambiguity.

I have since had the opportunity to take aerial photographs over Shark Bay, the Southern coastal region of the Kimberley and around the Yeppoon region in Northern Queensland.

I have found shooting from between 2000 to 3000 feet is the ideal altitude range. It is both high enough to begin abstracting the landscape but not so high as to begin to lose important detail.
